Symptoms
- Early Stages: Prostate cancer in its early stages may not cause any noticeable symptoms.
- Advanced Stages: Symptoms may include difficulty urinating, blood in the urine or semen, pain in the pelvis or back, and erectile dysfunction.
Diagnosis
A physical examination in which a doctor checks for abnormalities in the prostate.
It is a blood test that measures the levels of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate. However, elevated levels may indicate prostate issues, including cancer.
In this, a sample of tissue is collected from the prostate and examined under a microscope to confirm the presence of cancer cells.
Treatment
- Active Surveillance: For slow-growing tumors in older men or those with other health issues, active surveillance may be recommended by doctors, where the cancer is monitored but not immediately treated.
- Surgery: Removal of the prostate gland (prostatectomy) may be an option, especially in localized cases.
- Radiation Therapy: In this, high-energy rays are used to target and kill cancer cells.
- Hormone Therapy: Suppressing the production of hormones that fuel certain types of prostate cancer.
- Chemotherapy: Certain medications are used to kill cancer cells or slow down their further growth.

- Regular Check-ups: Men, especially those at higher risk, should undergo regular screenings, including PSA tests, and DREs.
