Dr. Amit Ghose selected medicine as a career alternative after an enjoyable schooling at St. Xaviers Collegiate School. He graduated and post-graduated from Calcutta Medical College. Subsequently, he proceeded to the United Kingdom and trained between 1987 and 1996. He returned to Calcutta where he has set up a comprehensive urological service in the private sector.
After his return from the UK, he has been associated with various institutions including Wockhardt Hospital and Kidney Institute, Woodlands Hospital, Kothari Medical Center, and Anandalok Hospital. Currently, he has dedicated his service to Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata.
The early part of the career journey witnessed Dr. Amit Ghose developing the general Urological service for the community of West Bengal mainly on the platform of Wockhardt Hospital. Then he set up his own private practice by establishing The Oxford Stone Clinic. This enabled him to make healthcare affordable for all strata of Society.
Apart from being a doctor and surgeon, Dr. Ghose felt the necessity to give back to the society he belongs to. He founded the Bengal Urology Trust and Prostate Cancer Foundation in Kolkata. He is the emeritus health committee chairperson of the Bengal Chamber of Commerce. Through these organizations, he organizes periodical awareness campaigns on Urological diseases in general and Prostate (Cancer) in particular so that people after certain years of age become aware of good practice of urological health.
Many other activities have been organized for the benefit of Urological patients, the general public, and charitable organizations. Dr. Amit Ghose has been the Chairperson of The Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry since 2003. He has been instrumental in conducting various public interests health camps, awareness programs, and education policy-making Seminars. As the Chairperson of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, Kolkata he has spearheaded a number of campaigns to promote the cause of awareness of Prostate Cancer for the benefit of the lay public. Many useful Urological Seminars have been conducted on the platform of Rotary and Lions for the benefit of the Society in general.
Men with prostate cancer have a few prostate surgery choices. Historically, the only prostate surgery option was open prostatectomy, involving large incisions and post-operative side effects.

Dr. Ghose has successfully treated numerous cases of high-grade bladder cancer. It can either be non-muscle or muscle-invasive.
